Web Design & Development
Algonquin Studios (January, 2007 - Present)
Pinnacle Orthopedics
For this project, I acted as the project manager, lead designer, and developer. I designed the website in Adobe Photoshop and coded it with HTML, CSS, XSLT, and JavaScript for QuantumCMS, Algonquin Studios' content management system. The home page photo collage was prepared by staff web developer, Garret Hussak. All photography was taken by KC Kratt.
AireXpert Technics
I was the project manager, lead designer, and developer for this project. As project manager, I met the with client directly for the initial design meeting and communicated with the client throughout the project. After creating the design, I also built out the website using HTML, CSS, XSLT, and JavaScript and integrated it with our content management system, QuantumCMS.
Buffalo Niagara Jobs
For this project, I was tasked with designing a new user interface that was user friendly and intuitive, but also fit within the current website indentity. Every page was prototyped in Photoshop and approved by the client. Following the design phase, I turned the prototypes into static HTML pages that a team of developers was able to use as templates within a .NET web application.
Exigence Group
For this project, I worked with the client through several rounds of revisions to create a design that accurately reflected the company's identity. I was also able to do the majority of web coding. The Flash piece and some web coding was completed in combination with additional staff members.
Sleep Medicine Centers
For this website, I also acted as project manager, lead designer, and developer. I designed the website and coded it with HTML, CSS, XSLT, and JavaScript. Sleep Medicine Centers, as with all QuantumCMS websites, meets HTML 4.01 Transitional and CSS 2.0 validation standards. It also meets Section 508 and WCAG Priority 1 and 2 standards for web accessibility.
Algonquin Studios
After working at Algonquin Studios for several months, I was tasked with redesigning the company website. For this project, I created several designs and presented them to Marketing Director, Steve Kiernan II, and Senior Usability Engineer, Adrian Roselli. The website was coded by Adrian and is updated by the marketing department, including the home page banner.
Evenings Empire Studios
For this QuantumCMS website, I created the design in Photoshop and coded the page templates using HTML, CSS and XSLT. This project called for custom sub navigation where thumbnail graphics are used in place of text.
Medical Accoustics
This website was another project where I acted as the lead designer and developer. I conducted the design meeting with the client and designed the home page and a content page in Photoshop. I also wrote the HTML, CSS, and XSLT to build the website and integrate it with QuantumCMS.
Catholic IPA
This is another example of a website that I was able to both design and code. This website focused on web accessibility because of its perceived user group. As with all of our websites, it was coded to meet Section 508 and WCAG standards. It also includes the capability to adjust the font size on each page.
Catholic Health System
This website was one of the first QuantumCMS websites that I both designed and coded at Algonquin Studios. I was able to work directly with the client to review design drafts. The website was specifically coded to allow for the greatest amount of user control within QuantumCMS, including the home page banner and small animated banner.
Deelicious Web Design (June - December, 2006)
Deelicious Web Design
This design was created by owner Deanna Reding. I was solely responsible for implementing the XHTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, XML, and MySQL database needed for the site. The website includes a number of PHP e-mail forms, a client login section that utilizes the MySQL database, and an XML-driven portfolio.
Town of Covington
This website was my first assignment at Deelicious Web Design where I was responsible for both the design and the coding. The site has a CSS-based layout and is built around W3C coding standards and accessibility guidelines.
IR Systems
At Deelicious Web Design, I was responsible for most of the design and all of the coding of this website for a local satellite service retailer. The site has a CSS-based layout and is built around standards and accessibility guidelines. It also includes a nifty little AJAX calculator.
Freelance & Volunteer (June, 2005 - December, 2006)
A Bit of Olde England website
This website was done as a freelance project for an upstart bed and breakfast near my home. I was responsible for the design, coding, scripting, photography, and much of the content. The site includes the integration of Javascript libraries and microsystems such as the LightBox Javascript slideshow and Google Map API.
Castile Library
This website for the Cordelia A. Greene Library located in my home town was completed as a freelance project. The website was coded in XHTML and CSS, with a focus on standards and accessibility. The website has already been recoded since its implementation. I now update the website on a voluntary basis.
Wyoming County Fair
This website was my first voluntary project. The first incarnation was created after my Junior year at Canisius College and I have updated it every summer since. During the last round of updates, I also recoded the HTML and CSS to be more structurally and semantically sound.
Personal Projects (November 2006 - Present)
SabreCast
SabreCast is an unofficial Buffalo Sabres fan podcast that I recently began recording with my brother. The project has included logo and web design, web coding, Internet marketing, social networking, and podcasting. The website is built on WordPress.
BuckleburyFerry.net
BuckleburyFerry.net is a science fiction and fantasy blog that I designed and maintain. I started the blog so I could keep my XHTML, CSS, and PHP skills sharp and to experiment with WordPress. Now, the website contains many articles and book reviews that I have written and acts as an example of my writing skills.
Print & Graphic Design
Canisius College (August, 2002 - May, 2006)
Type Poster
For this project, I was assigned to create a poster for a design event. The text was provided by the professor, but otherwise, the assignment was rather open-ended. I chose to utilize the San Marco blackletter typeface for its bold display and Myriad Regular Condensed to contrast the other and because of its simple nature and legibility.
Tostitos
This project was done for Advanced Digital Design in conjunction with an assigned partner from an Advertising Writing class. The project needed to include three ads, a billboard, and a package design for a snack food. My partner and I agreed upon Tostitos Hint of Lime for our snack and created a simple and sophisticated campaign.
History Club Invitation
I created this invitation for the annual History Soiree event at Canisius College. The invitation is 8.5 x 11 in. and was handed out to all history majors and faculty. The theme for this year's event was the U.S. homefront during WWII, so I tried to capture the same feel as American war posters at that time.
Lord of the Rings Poetry Book
For the final project of my Digital Typography course, it was assigned that we must create a book of poetry. I chose the poetry found within the pages of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings novels for my content and based the design of my book on the theme of the novels.
Gandalf
This image of Gandalf the Grey was Created for a Digital Graphics course at Canisius College. The original exercise was working with type in Adobe Illustrator, however, I expanded upon the requirements and created this strong visual image.
Boba Fett
This assignment, for a course simply entitled Color, involved recreating an artwork monochromatically and complimentarily. I chose Cam Kennedy's cover artwork for a Boba Fett graphic novel. I used the pen tool and traced over the entire work and changed the color scheme to alter the tone of the piece.
